Plants perform best in soils that contain pore spaces that allow water, air and roots to move freely deep into the soil. Here at Microfarm, we use an organic soil blend that creates this ideal environment. It’s a simple mix of 1/3 pine bark fines, 1/3 mushroom compost, and 1/3 Stalite PermaTill.

Climbing/vine type plants like cucumbers, pole beans and snow peas require the support of a trellis. Sure there are plenty of big box stores and garden centers where you can buy an inexpensive trellis, but gardeners who want something more memorable and unique, might try this simple, sturdy design made using Western Red Cedar lumber.

Properly preparing the soil before planting fruit trees will greatly improve their performance and promote healthy, vigorous growth. It’s important to amend the prepared soil to ensure that the newly planted trees have the necessary minerals & nutrients.
Simply put, the purpose of soil preparation is to replenish vital minerals and nutrients, as well as break up and loosen any compacted soil.
